About

Why “Little People’s Coffee”? Allow me to explain . . .

I became a grandmother when I was 43 and it has been the joy of my life. I didn’t really have grandparents so I wanted my grandchildren to have the best version of something I felt was missing from my childhood. I especially missed having a grandmother. I never met my paternal grandmother because she died when my dad was very young.  My maternal grandmother died when I was six-years-old. I only have one memory of her, but it’s really special to me. When our family would visit her, she was always at the kitchen table smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. The first time she invited my sister and I to join her for a cup of coffee, we were thrilled. Coffee was for adults, right? Our grandmother had a special coffee recipe just for us. She called it “Little People’s Coffee”. Little People’s Coffee consisted of a little bit of coffee, a lot of sugar, but it was mostly milk. The best part? It was served in a ceramic coffee mug just like the grown-ups used. It was such a special time.

I often wonder what it would be like if I had the chance to sit at the kitchen table with both of my grandmothers and tell them about how I came to be who I am today. So that is what my blog is about. I created a forum where I can put those stories out into the universe for my grandmothers to hear. As a grandmother myself, I have to believe that they would want to know who I am, what I’ve overcome, and how I got to this place in my life. It wasn’t always easy. In fact, it was really hard, but it was so worth the journey.

So I invite you to eavesdrop on our conversations. Feel free to chime in if you’d like to add your own thoughts. Welcome to Little People’s Coffee.
